We believe…
Theologian Greg Boyd has said that the greatest predictor of the quality of your life is the picture you have of God. Haven’s commitment to “love without asterisks” is a byproduct of our faith in the radical, expansive, and inclusive love of God, embodied and lived out in Jesus the Christ. We believe that God is passionately pursuing and at work in each of us to create something of beauty and worth.
One of the most ancient statements of faith—of who God is—is the Apostle’s Creed. This statement unites us not only with other Presbyterians, but with Christians in every time and place who have gathered together, unified not by race or culture or gender, but rather by their conviction in these things:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
